Objective #4

What are the computer's main storage devices, and how can i evaluate whether they match my needs?
  • Typical computer system storage devices may include a hard drive, and SSD drive, a flash drive, and a CD and DD drives. When you turn off your computer the data stored in these devices remains, this is known as nonvolatile storage. One of the largest storage capacity and economical device is the Hard Drive. The fastest access time device is the newer SSD drive. To determine the storage capacity your system needs, calculate the amount of storage your software needs to reside on your computer. To add more storage or to provide more functionality for your system, you can install additional; drives, either internally or externally.

Windows Video

It is great on how far we have come from 1985 to now 2012. Computers and there operating systems have come such a long way in the past 27 years. The first Windows 1.01 Version in 1985 ran on the first operating system, MS DOS; to now Windows 7. Windows 7 is the latest version of the Windows operating systems but is not the last, just this year they came out with Windows 8, theres a huge change in graphics since 1985, the graphics have become so much more real looking (three dimensional). Today's Windows OS has a lot more user friendly features; like drop down boxes, tells the computer what to do instead of using codes to get a response. Another technological advancement in Windows from MS DOS is now you can multitask on your computer. Instead of having to do one thing at a time, you can have several windows, programs, and Web pages open to help you accomplish tasks faster and more efficiently. The newer programs allow a user to individualize their computers. Newwer programs can add any application they need to complete the tasks that needs to get done. Every time a new version comes out it gets better and more user friendly; from MS DOS to Windows 98 to now Windows 7, we have come along way since 1985 and I am glad we did. To deal with the graphics back then must have been a nightmare. The advancement in todays technology with computers, cellphone, ipads, nooks, and kindles, society has become a more efficient place for people to live. Us has humans with the constant upgrades have become more techologically smarter and better at multitasking.

Desktops Obsolete!!

In a presentation in Dublin, Ireland in March 2010, Google sales chief Jim Haley stated that desktops would be irrelevant in three years (SiliconRepublic.com). Smartphones, notebooks, and the amount of information available online will converge to create a different kind of future than what we’ve known.

I agree with Jim Haley, desktops will end up being irrelevant in three years only do to the fact that our technology is growing rapidly. Smartphones and notepads(Ipads) are now our way of using the internet. Whats the point of having a desktop when you can legit have a "computer" right in your hands! Information available all times at anytime.

Professional and Play Time Presentation !

Professional and Play Time !

What is a type of application software that you use regularly that is helpful for you personally or professionally?

The application software that I use on a regular basis is Microsoft Word. This is a type of productivity software because it allows you to complete tasks at home for work or school. I can create reports, letters, resumes and much more. Its a word processing software its a very common application used world wide. Three advantages using word are: creating reports for final projects, brainstorming, and moving information from one place to another.I would recommend students using Microsoft Word so they can write reports faster, type letters or notes for presentations or meetings for work or school.
